Alkali-Activated Materials and Geopolymer: a Review of Common Precursors and Activators Addressing Circular Economy

The vast increase in CO2 and waste generation recent decades has been a major obstacle to sustainable development sustainability. In construction industry, the production of ordinary Portland cement is greenhouse gas emitter with almost 8% total world. To address this, Alkali-activated materials geopolymer have more recently introduced as green alternative significantly lowered environmental footprints. Their use replace products generally leads energy virgin savings resulting concrete production. doing so, it reuses solid generated industrial manufacturing sectors, which aligned circular economy. turn, reduces need for consumption its subsequent generation. provide further insight challenges facing substitution cement, this article reviews different types, mechanisms, result mechanical durability properties alkali-activated reported literature. Finally, discusses future projections that cementitious can be used geopolymer.
